Discussion Sections: We have two discussion sections in this course.
Yours will be lead by either Shaowei Su or Fang Wang. This is where you will discuss homework problems and take the weekly quiz.
Also, midterms will be taken at discussion sections.
Homework: Homework will not be collected or graded.
Doing your homework should adequately prepare you for the weekly quiz.
Quizzes: At the end of each discussion section will be a quiz. There will be no make-up quizzes, unless there is a very good reason. (See grading, below.) There will be no quizzes on weeks with midterms.
Midterms: There will be two midterms held during discussion sessions. The first is scheduled for Thursday, Oct 19th. The second will be on Thursday, November 16th.
Final Exam: The final exam will be held on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 from 12:00 to 2:00pm. Check now for conflicts with other classes! The instructor will not schedule a make-up exam. If unavoidable conflicts arise, students may apply for a make-up through the Office of Studies. See also
the NU undergraduate exam schedule.
Grade: Your grade will be determined from the following (and curved at the end of the quarter):
- Quizzes: 10%
- Midterms: 50% (25% each)
- Final Exam: 40%
The lowest quiz grade will be dropped. Thus, a single missed quiz will not affect your grade. If missing more than one quiz is unavoidable contact Pat.
Notice: No class the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
